(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Following the news this week of the second parent sentenced in the college admissions scandal, Governor Gavin Newsom signed the California Assembly’s College Admissions Reform package. Earlier this year, we learned of “Operation Varsity Blues,” where universities, coaches, and wealthy parents across the country and across California were taking advantage of the current college admissions process.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – AB 827, a bill that helps California reach its ambitious climate goals by having restaurants and other food service provide bins for recyclables and compostable waste has been signed into law by California Governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. The “Green Restaurants” bill, authored by Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento), helps California achieve its goal of diverting 75 percent of organic waste from landfills by 2025.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D – Sacramento), introduced ACA 6, known as the Free the Vote Act, which would restore the right to vote for people that served their time but are on parole. ACA 6 is sponsored by California Secretary of State Alex Padilla and jointly authored by Assemblymembers Kevin McCarty, Shirley Weber, Rob Bonta, Lorena Gonzalez, Ash Kalra, and Sydney Kamlager-Dove. In California, a person’s right to vote is suspended when they are incarcerated or on parole for a felony conviction.
