McCarty, Supporters Hold Gun Free School Zones Rally at Capitol

(Sacramento) – Assembymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) was joined by supporters from Moms Demand Action and the Everytown Survivor Network for a rally on the steps of the State Capitol in support of Assembly Bill 424, a measure Assemblymember McCarty authored that will close a loophole in the California Gun Free School Zone Act. Under current law a school district superintendent can allow a person with Concealed Carry Weapon permit to bring a gun onto school grounds. AB 424 will eliminate that option. “The reality is that bringing more guns into schools increases the likelihood of an unintentional shooting or a confrontation turning deadly, that otherwise would have ended without serious injury,” said Assemblymember McCarty. “California schools are already safe; there is no need to allow civilians to carry concealed firearms around school children.” Here’s more in this Assembly Access video.
